Pepperoni Ftira Burger
Ingredients for 2 persons (or a very hungry one)
500g Lean Beef Mince
1 Fresh Maltese Ftira Bread
20g Tomato Sauce (or pizza topping)
100g Grated Mozzarella
70g Sliced Pepperoni
2 Sliced Onions
2tsp Olive Oil
1tsp Brown Sugar
1tsp Balsamic Vinegar
1tbsp Relish Smokehouse Rub
3 Slices Cheddar Cheese
1 Large Fresh Egg
Salt & Pepper to Taste
Directions:
Cut the ftira bread in half and top it with tomato sauce, mozzarella and pepperoni.
Bake in a hot oven until itβs piping hot.
Fry the onions in some olive oil on a medium flame.
Season with salt & pepper.
Add the sugar and balsamic vinegar when it becomes translucent and mix well.
Lower the flame and let them caramelize slowly. This process can be done before as the longer you cook them, the sweeter and tastier they will become.
For the patty, combine the relish with the beef mince and form a ball.
Form the patty roughly the diameter of the ftira. I used two tin plates to help me in the process but this can be easily made by hand.
Fry the patty in some olive oil for 3-4 minutes per side depending on how well done you like it. Season with salt and pepper on both sides during the process and finish it off with the cheddar cheese.
You can fry the egg afterwards.
Combine the burger starting with the bottom ftira half, beef patty, caramelised onions and the egg.
Carefully place the top ftira half on top of the egg so that the yolk will poke through the ftira hole.
Serve immediately with French fries.
